La tête dans les nuages - Head in the clouds

Lors de ma dernière escapade à Governors Island dont je ne vous ai épargné aucune photo de la Fete Paradiso, j'en ai profité pour aller voir un peu plus loin ce qui se passait dans les alentours et je suis tombée devant cette incroyable ONVNI -objet non volant non identifié- que j'ai énormément aimé avant même de savoir de quoi il était question et qui a totalement piqué ma curiosité.

During my last trip to Governors Island -from which I didn't spared you any photo of the Fete  Paradiso, I went a little further to see what was happening in the surrounding area and I stopped in front of this amazing UNFO - unidentified non-flying object - I loved it right away, even before I knew what it was.

De loin ça ressemble a une chose blanche informe mais floconneuse...

From a distance it looks like a white thing but flaky...

Et plus on se rapproche plus ça ressemble a une grotte

And closer you go the more it looks like a cave

Mais, surprise, en y rentrant, là ou on s'attend a un plafond blanchâtre, il est bleu!

But, surprise, where you would expect a white ceiling, it is blue!

Cette 'Head in the clouds" i.e tête dans les nuages est en fait un assemblage de 53780 bouteilles et bidons recyclés, recoltés par des communautés et associations, qui ont été assemblés en 120 petits paquets, eux mêmes ensuite relmiées pour former cette sorte d'amas qui n'est pas sans faire penser au fameux "Cloud gate" d'Anish Kapoor mais qui par son matériau tellement plus modeste -plastique recyclé au milieu de mirroir- par son vide en dessous qui permet de s'y promener, et enfin par son état changeant en permanence grâce à l'eau colorée dans les bouteilles qui se vaporise plus ou moins en fonction de la météo, changeant en permanence l'aspect général au lieu de l'immuable miroir ... la comparaison avec la fameuse sculpture de Chicago n'est plus qu'on lointain souvenir... et elle fait la joie de tous, petits et grands qui s'y aventurent bien volontiers en se posant des milliers de questions... 

J'ai énormément aimé que le recyclage soit fait intelligemment et qu'elle ne fasse qu'ajouter au coté changeant dans le temps de cette oeuvre.. et que quelque chose d'aussi pur qu'un nuage soit évoque par des vieux bidons en plastiques usagés bien peu glamours.

This "Head in the clouds" is actually an assemblage of 53780 bottles and cans recycled, harvested by communities and associations, which have been assembled in 120 packets, themselves then relmiees to form this kind of cluster that is not without making think about Anish Kapoor's "Cloud gate" but which is so much more modest - plastic material recycled instead of mirrors - by its emptiness below which allows you to walk, and finally by his state changing continuously thanks to the coloured water in bottles that vaporizes more or less depending on the weather, continuously changing the appearance instead of the immutable mirror... the comparison with the famous sculpture of Chicago just becomes a distant memory... and the joy of all, young and old who ventured there gladly by asking thousands of questions is quite palpable.

I really loved that recycling is done so intelligently and it is only adding to the changing of appearance in time of this work and the fact that something as pure as a cloud is created by old used plastic way less glamorous as well.
